What this benchmark is built on
The standard. This benchmark maps to the 13 psychosocial factors in CSA Z1003, Canada's National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace, the world's first standard of its kind. The standard also asks employers to identify other chronic stressors specific to their own workplace, so treat this as your starting baseline, not the full picture.
The timing. A second edition of Z1003 is in development and moves toward a formal Psychological Health and Safety Management System with requirements to identify, control, and continually improve on psychosocial hazards. Establishing your baseline now puts you ahead of that shift.
The Ontario angle. The law does not require a full psychological health and safety program, but it does require a workplace violence and harassment program under the OHSA, and that duty now expressly covers virtual conduct. Courts increasingly read the general duty to take every reasonable precaution as including psychosocial hazards. Your Psychological Protection score is the factor that overlaps most directly with that legal floor.
